GRASS Copyright and License Information

Geographic Resources Analysis and Support System (GRASS)
is Copyright, 1997-1999 by the GRASS Development Team,
with headquarters at Baylor University. This includes all
software, documentation, and associated materials.

GRASS is freely available for use and users may make their
own additions and modifications. In fact, the GRASS
Development Team encourages users to develop new modules
and programs for use with GRASS. By doing so, the user
community grows and prospers.

However, what we will not allow is for commercial firms
to acquire GRASS source codes and use them in their own
commercial packages in any way shape or form. That is
not right. Especially when no credit is given to the
authors to the code(s). Commercial firms wishing to
cooperate in development, or use GRASS code can contact us.

So, the GRASS Copyright protects the authors of the
software, and still allows for development.

The GRASS GIS is provided on an "as is" basis, without
warranty of any kind, including but not limited to, the
warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular
purpose and/or for non-infringement. The entire risk as
to the quality and performance of the software is borne
exclusivly by the user and at their sole risk. Should
this software be defective, the user and not the GRASS
Development Team, assume any or all costs whatsoever
arising there from.
