Using it on data created with GRASS GIS 6 requires update of vector topology via automated conversion tool. Long term release (LTS).

GRASS GIS 7.5 (development)

Unstable and experimental, but very promising (see New Features) and usually works. Direct compatibility with earlier GRASS GIS 6 versions is not guaranteed but provided with automated conversion tools (affects vector topology).
