raleigh_northcarolina_usa_epsg6542 — a GRASS project bundling public data for
central Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina, USA.

There is no single license covering this dataset. It is a collection of
independently sourced layers, and each layer keeps the terms of the agency that
produced it. Those terms are listed below and in README.md.

PER-LAYER TERMS
---------------

elevation, landsat8_2025_B1..B7, watersheds
U.S. Geological Survey. Public domain; no restrictions on use or
redistribution. USGS requests, but does not require, that it be credited as
the data source. Use of USGS data must not imply USGS endorsement.

landuse
USGS / MRLC, Annual NLCD Collection 1. CC0 1.0 Universal. The NLCD
ScienceBase record states the data "are in the public domain and do not have
    any use constraints."
    https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/

census_blocks, municipal_boundary, zipcodes
U.S. Census Bureau, TIGER/Line. Not copyrighted; copyright protection is not
available for any work of the United States Government (17 U.S.C. 105).
Note: "TIGER/Line" is a registered trademark of the Census Bureau and may
not be used as or within the name of a product.

soils
USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, SSURGO. Public domain
(https://www.usa.gov/publicdomain/label/1.0/). The USDA NRCS should be
acknowledged as the data source in products derived from these data.

roads
    (c) OpenStreetMap contributors. Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0.
    https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/
This layer carries binding conditions; see "OpenStreetMap roads" below.

geology
Macrostrat. Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0).
Every Macrostrat API response declares "license": "CC-BY 4.0".
    https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
Credit Macrostrat, and cite the original map source behind each unit; the
source_id attribute on each feature identifies it.

schools, hospitals
NC OneMap — North Carolina Department of Information Technology, Government
Data Analytics Center, Center for Geographic Information and Analysis.
NC OneMap's policy states: "Geospatial data, web services and applications
provided directly from this NC OneMap geoportal are free to use by anyone
without restriction." No written release agreement is required or issued.

lakes, streams
Wake County GIS. Wake County's terms of use state: "Wake County GIS does not
restrict the use of our data. You are welcome to use and/or redistribute the
data." Access constraints: none. Wake County asks that users be referred to
its site so they can obtain the most current data.

OPENSTREETMAP ROADS
-------------------

The roads layer is the only layer in this dataset that carries binding
conditions. It is a Derivative Database of OpenStreetMap under the ODbL, so
anyone redistributing it must:

  - attribute "(c) OpenStreetMap contributors";
  - name the license and link to it, or to
    https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright; and
  - offer the layer itself under the ODbL.

ODbL share-alike does not extend to the other layers of this dataset. Under the
OpenStreetMap Foundation's Collective Database Guideline, a feature type drawn
entirely from non-OpenStreetMap sources remains independent, and the result is a
Collective Database rather than a Derivative Database — share-alike then applies
only to the parts containing or derived from OpenStreetMap data. Every other
layer here comes from a distinct non-OSM source, so each keeps its own terms.

    https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Licence/Community_Guidelines/
    Collective_Database_Guideline_Guideline

This is an interpretive guideline approved by the OSMF board, not a court
ruling.

That separation depends on the layers staying separate. Combining roads with
another layer — for example joining road attributes onto census blocks —
produces a Derivative Database, and that output must be licensed under the ODbL.
